Vanua Levu - Culture

The Savusavu Bay is huge, with unlimited bays to visit (most uninhabited). For novices, there's a nearby island to circumnavigate or the eastern shoreline of Savusavu Bay to paddle down. Combine kayaking with snorkelling, reef walks or just sunbathing where you want to stop or rest.

Customized guided expeditions from 3 - 14 "Expedition nights". The ultimate Fijian experience. Savusavu has incredible snorkelling with a range of sites for novice inside the Savusavu Bay to outside the Bay on the fringing main reef for experienced. The very fast powerful Deep Vee boats are fantastic for learners, novice and experienced water-skiers. Ratu Inoke, The Fijian Village Chief invites you to visit Naidi Village to experience the unique culture of his people, to witness how they live today and to share with them what happens in a Fijian Village. Visit a local working Copra (Coconut) and Beef Plantation on the southern coast just outside Savusavu Town. Meet the farm workers and families, see how coconuts are harvested and dried, perhaps ride a bullock team sled, have the growing productive cycle of coconut trees explained, see examples of local cattle. Bikes give affordable freedom of movement to or those not wanting to spend too much on getting around or those who want to keep fit. There are two fourteen foot sailing catamarans for hire. They are easy to sail with masthead floatation and fantastic fun. Imagine the romance of getting married in a Fijian Village Church OR Tropical Gardens, attired in full traditional Fijian Wedding costumes, a Village Choir, Warrior Escorts, a traditional meke (dance) followed by a Lovo Fijian Feast.

Tourism is now making an impact on the area mostly through the development of scuba diving. The successful renovation of the oldest building Savusavu, on the town's waterfront which was used for storage of copra, is a tribute to modern man's entrepreneurial skills.
